This movie was like an onion. When you first see this movie, you think of a cute, lighthearted movie about a girl who becomes little and saves the forest. How cute! But when you dig deep into this movie, you see layers that aren't so apparent when you're first watching a Disney movie. This movie talks about family and the relationships between a parent and a kid. Peel it back again and you get the destruction of wildlife, and how important it is to preserve our forests. I guess you could also say it was like an onion because it made me cry.
Besides that, the messages in this movie were very well delivered. A teenager just losing her mom goes to live with her father, who doesn't have the best relationship with her. He's invested in catching these little woodland people. When she meets the queen of the forest, she's given the task to save the wildlife. Oh, also she's been shrunk to about three inches tall. She meets Nod, an ex leaf man who took up racing after his dad died.
Both Nod and M.K develop as characters throughout the play. Nod, once only into racing and having fun, learns to step up and become a leaf man, just as his father was. M.K learns how important family is, and strengthens the relationship with her father.
Looking at the production side of Epic, the animation was great. Looking back at the movies I watched when I was younger, like the Little Mermaid and Mulan, I've noticed the the animation has really progressed. Seeing the transition between the bright greens on the leaves to when they shrivel up and turn black is amazing to watch.
The strengths I think for this movie was the animation, because of transitions between light and dark, but the weaknesses would be the time sequence. The movie was very rushed, and the sequence of evens happened very quickly, but when you think about how the movie was aimed at children, they don't have that wide of an attention span.
This movie is definitely good for young kids. It's a cute movie that kids would enjoy, with comedic relief from the slug and snail. When adults watch it with their kids, they will enjoy the movie, but also understand the underlying messages in the film, which makes this a good movie for everyone.

The the mausoleum over the house has the original family and the tombstones are the rest of the family. its super spooookkyyyy.

Custom Vehicle
This is my custom vehicle. I used the following vehicles to create this:
One of the terms from the article is resolution. Resolution is important because if you have low resolution, your pictures will be pixilated and text will be hard to read. You can fix this by making your resolution high at the star of a new project in photoshop.

Magazine
For this assignment, we had to make a magazine cover. I originally planned on doing a teen fashion magazine, as seen in my sketch, but ended up doing a celebrity breakdown magazine. My inspiration was those magazines you see while waiting to be checked out at Publix. They're cluttered and have huge gossip stories about celebrities. Creating this magazine took a lot of work, but I got it done. I used the quick selection tool and the masking tool mostly, but I also worked with actions for the first time which makes creating complex designs much easier.

Comic strip
It's important to save selections because if you mess up, you can easily go back to the layout you want and not have to re select everything. I used the brush tool differently by selecting only the parts I wanted to color and not have to be careful while coloring. after reading the article, I learned to use a corny joke.
This is my senior design

Eddie The Donkey
Using these tools for Eddie The Dinkey would have been very helpful for my Thor poster. the magic wand tool is so much more easy to use than the other selection tool. The polygonal lasso could have really helped when I accidentally didn't select part of the picture, and the magnetic lasso would have also helped. Using the brush to blend in the face would have helped clean up my poster. I had fun doing this project, it wasn't as challenging as I thought. I also decided to add a space helmet on Eddie.

Color Theory Collage
This is my collage. I chose the color white because white is the color of perfection, and that's what my friends and I joke about me being. I chose a white pizza because that's my favorite kind of pizza and pizza is my favorite food. I have a picture of a cat because I like cats and putting bread on their faces. I have a macaroon because they are delicious, as is the picture of the Starbucks. I have the polar bear and penguin because they are both in my top 5 favorite animals. I have my Keds because they're my favorite shoes, and the piano and the bed because I spend way to much time in my bed, and I'm always playing the piano. Finally, One Direction. They're my guilty pleasure. I have all this indie/alternative music I listen to, but the second you put on One Direction I am screaming and practically dying on the inside because they are my favorite band.
...So basically feed me food and let me stay in bed all day and my life would be perfection..like the color white.

Animals, Initials, Masking, and Textures
This is my animal. It's a snail, a cool snail. I made it with my initials, MCV, because my name is Mia Celine Vargo. I used a snail skin texture and a snail shell. The M is the body of the snail, the V is the antennae, and the C is the shell. The green brushstrokes were to make snail slime. Snails are gross though, ever since I saw Monsters Inc. I've been scared of snails/slugs...have you seen Roz? She's gross. Anyway, I learned how to use the vector mask and how to customize the brush more than I previously knew.
